Revenue Services: Online individual income tax filing for Connecticut returns available

2/09/2021

(Hartford, CT) – The Department of Revenue Services (DRS) online Taxpayer Service Center (TSC) is currently accepting and processing Connecticut individual income tax returns. As of last Friday, more than 3,800 state individual income tax returns have been filed, with approximately 3,300 state refunds issued, via the TSC, which is an easy, free, and secure filing and payment option.

The DRS highly recommends electronic filing, which is efficient and can help reduce basic return errors. Electronic filing, along with requesting direct deposit, is often the fastest way to receive a refund, if one is expected.

"Despite the challenges Covid-19 has brought to Connecticut and tax administration, the knowledgeable professionals here at DRS are well-positioned to deliver the highest level of customer service during the 2021 income tax filing season," said Revenue Services Commissioner designate Mark D. Boughton. "We encourage taxpayers to plan ahead, to seek assistance from DRS about questions they may have and, most of all, to file electronically when they are ready."

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced it will begin accepting federal income tax returns on Friday, February 12th, 2021. Since Connecticut's individual income tax return begins with federal Adjusted Gross Income, it may be beneficial for taxpayers to complete their federal return first.

For those using 3rd party software to file their federal and Connecticut income tax returns, the state return will not be submitted to DRS until after February 12th.

The deadline to file a Connecticut individual income tax return this year is Thursday, April 15th, 2021.
