Attorney General William Tong joined a multistate coalition opposing a decision from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana prohibiting dozens of federal officials and agencies from communicating with social media companies about harmful online content, including financial scams, misinformation meant to undermine elections, and harassment.

Attorney General Tong Announces Receipt of $124.6 Million Through Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, Calls for Increased Spending on Tobacco and Nicotine Control
Attorney General William Tong today announced the State of Connecticut has received its annual payment – this year totaling more than $124.6 million – pursuant to the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. He also called on the state to increase its spending to prevent youth smoking and vaping, and to assist Connecticut residents of any age in their efforts to stop smoking or vaping.

Attorney General William Tong released a statement following a decision today by U.S. District Court Judge Janet Bond Arterton denying a motion for preliminary injunction sought by the National Association for Gun Rights challenging Connecticut’s assault weapon and large capacity magazine ban. Today’s decision means Connecticut’s laws remain in effect.

Attorney General Tong Sues Meta for Harm to Youth Mental Health
Attorney General William Tong today joined 42 attorneys general throughout the country suing Meta in federal and state courts alleging that the company knowingly designed and deployed harmful features on Instagram and its other social media platforms that purposefully addict children and teens. At the same time, Meta falsely assured the public that these features are safe and suitable for young users.
