Olmsted Context and Survey Forms
Overview
The State Historic Preservation Office and Preservation Connecticut, with help from a consultant team at the Red Bridge Group, documented 139 commissions completed by the Olmsted firm throughout the state from 1887 through 1973. Examples of parks, city planning projects, subdivisions, estates, building grounds, cemeteries, and planned parkways are included. The surveyed focused on commissions actually completed by the Olmsted firm, that were accessible with owner permission, and for which components of the design remained in the landscape. The project team assessed each property to determine whether the Olmsted firm's work was recognizable and identified properties eligible for historic designations.
