  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced updates to its 2019-21 Conservation and Load Management (C&LM) Plan, an award-winning and nationally-recognized energy efficiency, demand management, and market transformation investment plan designed to help Connecticut residents and businesses reduce energy use and save money.

• 2/27/2021 DEEP Kicks-off Organics Infrastructure Initiative to Enhance Materials Management Options in Response to State Waste Crisis

  (Hartford, CT) – Today, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) hosted a virtual kickoff meeting of the Organics Infrastructure Initiative. This initiative was born out of the Connecticut Coalition for Sustainable Materials Management (CCSMM) and responds to the recommendations of the Working Group on Food Scraps and Organics and the state’s waste crisis.

• 7/14/2021 RecycleCT Launches RecycleCT Wizard App

  (HARTFORD)—The RecycleCT Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the importance of managing materials more sustainably through waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting, is adding an app to its very successful RecycleCT Wizard search tool. While the web-based search tool has been very successful, the app will increase ease and access, likely doubling the number of inquiries, and will add languages beyond English and Spanish including French, Simplified Chinese and Portuguese.

• 12/3/2021 DEEP 2021 Fall Atlantic Salmon Stockings Nearing Completion

  (HARTFORD)— Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) is nearing completion of its 2021 fall stockings of Atlantic salmon. DEEP’s Fisheries Division began stocking Atlantic salmon in early October, and nearly 1,400 salmon have been released so far with close to 150 left to stock.

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that the State of Connecticut is making available $12.7 million from the legal settlement in the Volkswagen (VW) Corporation emissions cheating scandal to fund five electric projects in the state, all in environmental justice communities.

  New Haven, CT - The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announce that the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) will no longer be regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

• 8/4/2021 DEEP Removes Abandoned Barges in New Haven as Risks to Environment and Navigation

  (NEW HAVEN) – This month, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, coordinating with federal, local, and commercial partners, facilitated the removal of two derelict barges posing a navigational and environmental threat to the waters and mariners around New Haven.

• 10/19/2021 RecycleCT Foundation Awards More than $150,000 in Funding Through Lee Sawyer Community Waste Reduction Grant Program

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the RecycleCT Foundation are pleased to announce more than $150,000 in grants awarded to local municipalities and organizations in the inaugural grant round of the Lee Sawyer Community Waste Reduction & Recycling Grant program, which supports waste reduction and reuse in addition to recycling and composting efforts.
