  • 10/21/2022 DEEP Announces More than 1M in Fed Grant Funds Available for Clean Vehicle and Equipment Projects

    (HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced the availability of up to $1,188,612 in federal funds for grants to local and state governments, as well as businesses and organizations, who want to replace large, older diesel engines and equipment with electric vehicle equivalents or newer, cleaner-burning engines.

  • 1/14/2022 National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Designates Locations in Southeastern CT as Nation’s 30th National Estuarine Research Reserve

    (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the University of Connecticut (UConn), other partner organizations, and members of the state’s Congressional delegation applauded the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s announcement today that a network of state-owned properties in Lyme, Old Lyme and Groton, CT and portions of the surrounding waters has been designated as the nation’s 30th National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR).

    (HARTFORD, CT) – Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill is open during upcoming school vacations and encourages families to come visit new indoor and outdoor exhibits. The new outdoor StoryWalk® along with two new indoor exhibits that offer high-tech augmented graphics complement the visitor center’s 200-million-year-old fossil trackway containing over 750 dinosaur tracks, hands-on exhibits, local geological history, displays, animal encounters and more.

  • 7/8/2022 DEEP Environmental Conservation Police Conclude Investigation into Killing of Newtown Bear

    On May 12, 2022, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police and Newtown Police responded to a report of a homeowner that had shot a black bear. Following a comprehensive investigation, and coordination with the Newtown Police Department and the Geographical Area (GA) #3 State’s Attorney's Office in Danbury, officers have concluded their investigation into the killing of the bear known by the DEEP Wildlife Division as bear #217. Based upon the facts of the investigation, the State’s Attorney’s Office has concluded that there is insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against the homeowner, Lawrence Clarke.

    (HARTFORD)—​The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is thrilled to announce that starting pay for lifeguards has increased to​$19/hr., up from $16/hr., with a salary range of $19-$21/hr.

    (HARTFORD, CT) – Four members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew, acting as an initial attack team, mobilized with an engine Friday morning from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s Eastern District Headquarters in Marlborough to fight wildfires in Texas.

    (HARTFORD)— Due to the current water and slush conditions on the ground at Burr Pond State Park along with the upcoming below freezing temperatures predicted for Torrington, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is canceling the No Child Left Inside® 16th annual Winter Festival scheduled for tomorrow, Feb. 5, at Burr Pond State Park.

  • 10/24/2022 Connecticut Celebrates Bat Week From Oct 24-31

    (HARTFORD, CT) –The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)celebrates Bat Week starting on October 24, as part of an international conservation awareness effort focused on the week prior to Halloween. Across Connecticut, bats are on the move; three species of tree bats are moving south for the winter, while the six cave bat species are moving shorter distances where they will spend the winter hibernating underground.
