Gov. Malloy Introduces Legislation to Prevent the State’s Adult Prisons from Becoming Crime Schools for the Young
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has submitted a legislative proposal to the Connecticut General Assembly with the goal of further reducing the state’s decreasing crime rate by making a systemic distinction – when appropriate – in how young adults within the justice system are treated in order to provide them with the support services they need to succeed in life instead of being mixed into the adult offender population, which too often can be the first step on a path toward a life of crime.

Gov. Malloy Activates State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol from Friday Evening Through Sunday Morning
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that in anticipation of temperatures over the next couple of days that are forecast to be in the single digits and wind chills potentially below zero, he is activating the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, and remaining in effect through 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 5.

Gov. Malloy Urges Federal Railroad Administration to Focus Northeast Rail Corridor Investments toward Achieving a ‘State of Good Repair’
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to table consideration of any new alignment of tracks on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) through Connecticut and instead focus its investments – which he says are long overdue – on maintaining the corridor in a “state of good repair.”

Gov. Malloy and Dept. of Public Health Unveil Springtime Awareness Campaign Aimed at Travelers Heading to Areas Affected by Zika Virus
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner Dr. Raul Pino today announced the launch of a new springtime public awareness campaign aimed at warning travelers heading to the Caribbean and other areas where the Zika virus is being actively transmitted about the risk of contracting the virus. Television and radio ads in both English and Spanish that target college students on spring break and other travelers began airing statewide and online on February 27 and will run through the end of March.

Gov. Malloy Announces Opening of State’s New Corrections Unit Exclusively for Young Adult Offenders
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) Commissioner Scott Semple today announced that the DOC has opened a new unit at the Cheshire Correctional Institution that will house offenders between the ages of 18 to 25 with the goal of preventing these young adults who have committed nonviolent crimes from beginning a life of crime and returning to prison.

Gov. Malloy Announces Impact of Trumpcare on Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that according to a new analysis of the impact on the State of Connecticut of the Republicans’ American Health Care Act – also known as Trumpcare – healthcare coverage for tens of thousands of state residents could be threatened, and as much as $1 billion in annual costs would be added to the state at full implementation after 2020.

Gov. Malloy Lifts Statewide Travel Ban Effective at 5PM Today, Encourages Residents to Remain Off Roads if Possible
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced this afternoon that the travel ban on state roads that went into effect early this morning will be lifted effective at 5:00 p.m. today, but he is still urging motorists to stay off the roads if possible this evening as conditions remain treacherous.
