Gov. Malloy Announces Enfield Correctional Institution to Close as Result of Declining Crime Rate and Prison Population
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as a result of the continuing decline in the state’s crime rate and the resulting drop in the prison population, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) will be closing the Enfield Correctional Institution in early 2018. The closure of the building, which currently holds around 700 offenders who will be transferred to other facilities, will save the state approximately $6.5 million in annual operating costs.

Gov. Malloy Announces Families on Care 4 Kids Wait List Can Now Apply for Child Care Support
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that effective immediately, the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) has reopened the Care 4 Kids program and eligible families on the wait list can now begin to enroll for the state’s primary child care support.

Gov. Malloy: State Launches New Website and Mobile App to Better Connect Veterans to the Benefits and Services They Have Earned
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that, as residents across the nation are preparing to celebrate Veterans Day, the State of Connecticut has debuted two new digital initiatives to assist the more than 200,000 veterans who live in the state in an effort to better connect veterans with the information on benefits and services that are available – a redesigned website for the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), and a newly launched smartphone app.

Gov. Malloy: State Experiences Surge in Riders Utilizing the Recently Expanded CTtransit Bus Service Connecting UConn’s Campuses
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state’s recently expanded CTtransit bus route providing UConn students, faculty, and staff the ability to connect – for the first time ever – to the main UConn campus in Storrs, the downtown Hartford UConn campus, and UConn Health in Farmington via public transit is experiencing a surge in ridership, having served over 32,000 passenger trips since its launch on August 13.

Gov. Malloy Announces Opening of New Train Station in Wallingford That Will Serve the Hartford Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker and numerous federal, state, and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of the newly constructed train station in Wallingford. Located at 343 North Cherry Street, the station will immediately begin providing service to existing Amtrak trains and soon will begin serving trains on the CTrail Hartford Line, the passenger rail service currently under construction and scheduled to launch in the middle of next year that will provide commuters with more frequent train service between New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield.

Gov. Malloy Announces ‘Q Bridge’ to be Lit Red, White, and Blue for Veterans Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven – informally known as the Q Bridge – will be lit red, white, and blue on the nights of Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, in observation of Veterans Day. Beacons capable of projecting light nearly six miles into the clear night sky will be lit until 1:00 a.m. during those nights.

Gov. Malloy Announces $13.6 Million in Funding to Remediate and Revitalize Blighted Properties in Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $13.6 million in state funding will be awarded to 14 municipalities across Connecticut to assess, remediate and revitalize blighted properties in their communities – also known as “brownfields” – and put them back into productive use. The projects encompass 89 acres of redevelopment.
