Gov. Malloy: Department of Correction Implementing New Processes to Reduce Recidivism and Further Lower Crime Rate
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that, in coordination with his broader “Second Chance Society” initiatives that he recently unveiled, the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is implementing new, innovative processes that will better prepare inmates nearing the end of their sentences for community re-entry in order to reduce recidivism, and more effectively coordinate release decisions.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is proposing legislation designed to narrow the gender wage gap among Connecticut’s workforce by halting “pay secrecy” – a practice among employers that frequently hinders pay discrimination from being pinpointed.

Gov. Malloy Introduces Legislation Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that, as part of the package of proposals he will introduce later this month, he will sponsor legislation designed to protect the victims of domestic violence. This legislation will prohibit possession of firearms for anyone who becomes subject to a temporary restraining order, eliminating a critical window of time during which time a victim’s life could be at risk.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that, as part of the package of legislative proposals he will introduce later this month, he will sponsor the Long Island Sound Blue Plan in order to ensure that Connecticut has a coordinated strategy in regards to any potential future use of the Sound.

Gov. Malloy Signs Order Extending Property Tax Filing Deadline
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed Executive Order No. 44, which orders deadlines for Connecticut residents who pay property taxes on a semi-annual or quarterly basis to be extended several days due to the winter weather that has impacted the state over the last week.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today met with community leaders and city officials in Hartford for a roundtable discussion on the “Second Chance Society” initiatives he unveiled during a policy speech yesterday, and highlighted one specific initiative in his comprehensive package that he said is one of the most effective ways to reduce crime while helping former offenders re-enter society: expanding education and employment opportunities.
