• 2/15/2017 Gov. Malloy Announces Dramatic Increase in Unused Prescription Drugs Collected at Drop Boxes During 2016

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut saw a dramatic increase in the amount of unused prescription medications that residents dropped off at collection boxes during 2016, with the state collecting a total of 33,803 pounds worth of various medications throughout the year. That amounts to a 43 percent increase compared to the amount that residents dropped off in 2015, when 23,651 pounds of unused drugs were collected by the state.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding a vote in the U.S. Senate today to repeal a federal regulation adopted by the Obama Administration in the aftermath of the 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School that prevents people with severe mental health illnesses from purchasing firearms. The legislation repealing the regulation passed the Senate by a vote of 57-43 and was approved in the House earlier this month by a vote of 235-185. It now goes to the White House for the president’s signature.

The recognition honors the victims of Japanese internment camps, which were created exactly 75 years ago this Sunday and resulted in the forcible removal and incarceration of over 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry living in the western coast of the United States during World War II.
