• 5/17/2018 Gov. Malloy Urges Municipal Leaders to Work With State on Collecting Critical Data Needed in Aftermath of Tuesday’s Tornadoes and Severe Storms

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today is urging municipal leaders in towns and cities affected by Tuesday’s tornadoes and severe storms to partner with the state and collect the critical data that will be needed to determine whether thresholds to request a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government have been met. A potential declaration could permit the state and its eligible municipalities to receive federal aid that can offset some of the costs that residents, businesses, and state and local governments are facing in the aftermath of the damaging storms.

Malloy today announced that pursuant to a presidential proclamation directing flags across the country to be lowered to honor the victims of the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas, U.S. and state flags in Connecticut should fly at half-staff beginning immediately until sunset on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

• 5/18/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Approval of Connecticut’s Opportunity Zone Nominations

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that United States Department of the Treasury has approved all 72 opportunity zones nominated last month by his administration on behalf of the State of Connecticut. These nominations were made as part of the federal government’s recently established Opportunity Zone Program to induce long-term investments in low-income communities.

• 5/25/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Media Companies ITV America and Wheelhouse Entertainment Establishing Operations in Connecticut, Creating Hundreds of New Jobs

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that award-winning entertainment production group ITV America – the largest independent producer of non-scripted entertainment content in the United States – will be relocating a significant portion of its business operations to Stamford. Additionally, newly launched Wheelhouse Entertainment – founded by entrepreneur and media magnate Brent Montgomery – also will be using Stamford as one of its bases of operations. Combined, the two entertainment companies plan to create approximately 450 jobs in Stamford across areas of finance and operations, production, and post-production, and more.

• 5/25/2018 Gov. Malloy: Federal Grant Will Aid New England States in Creating Coalition to Collaborate on Defense-Related Business

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island have received a joint grant of $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment to create an organization that will be known as the New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) – a component of the U.S. Department of Defense – has awarded the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) a $1.1 million federal grant to initiate and administer the Troops for Teachers program in Connecticut.

• 5/22/2018 Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation on Pay Discrimination

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has a signed into law legislation that will strengthen Connecticut’s ongoing efforts to secure equal pay for equal work for women in the workplace and help prevent unintended wage discrimination. Proposed by the Governor in his State of the State address earlier this year, the new law prohibits employers from asking about a prospective employee’s wage and salary history during the job interview process.

• 5/29/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Major Investment to Revitalize New London State Pier

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state will make a $15 million investment as a first step toward revitalizing the Connecticut State Pier in New London for potential use in the deployment of equipment and workers for the seven offshore wind projects currently planned in the northeast. The funding, which is subject to approval from the State Bond Commission on June 1, will include demolition of selected structures, site improvements, storm water treatment and drainage improvements, upgrades to increase laydown capabilities, construction of a heavy lift pad, improvements to load bearing capacity, and replacement of mooring dolphins.

• 5/29/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Restoration of Agricultural Sustainability Account Funding for Connecticut’s Dairy Farmers

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that through his administrative authority, he has fully restored funding to the state’s Agriculture Sustainability Account by reversing a $1.4 million cut to Connecticut’s dairy farmers that was made in the October 2017 bipartisan, biennial state budget. While the budget adjustment legislation that was signed into law earlier this month partially restored some of the funding beginning in fiscal year 2019, the cut still remained for fiscal year 2018. By making reductions in other areas, the Governor has been able to restore funding for 2018, fully reversing the scheduled cuts.

• 5/30/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces $7.5 Million to Fund Clean Air Projects from Volkswagen Settlement

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is making available $7.5 million dollars from the national legal settlement in the Volkswagen (VW) Corporation emissions cheating scandal to fund clean air projects. Administered through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), eligible projects must reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions across the state and meet other program requirements.

• 5/30/2018 Governor and Mrs. Malloy Host Criminal Justice Community at First-in-the-Nation Conference Inside a Maximum Security Prison

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and First Lady Cathy Malloy today hosted Connecticut’s criminal justice community at a conference inside of the Cheshire Correctional Institution that was designed to build upon recent efforts in the state to reform the criminal justice system in order to reduce crime and end the cycle of mass incarceration. Attended by about 150 frontline officials – including judges, prosecutors, victim advocates, corrections officers, legislators, incarcerated individuals, educational leaders, and others – this was the first time in the nation that a conference of this kind was held within the walls of a maximum security prison, giving attendees an opportunity to view such a facility from the inside while discussing the impact that the policies they implement have on the very people who serve time in these kinds of institutions.
