Friday: Gov. Malloy Keynotes Hartford Jobs Corps Commencement- Welcomes Crowd to New Haven Open
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote speech at the Hartford Jobs Corps Academy commencement ceremony. The Jobs Corps is a national voluntary career training and education program that prepares young people 16 through 24 for careers in today's job market. The Hartford Jobs Corps Academy is ranked among the top 20 Jobs Corps centers out of 125 nationwide.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Sharon Palmer to Lead Connecticut's Labor Department
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, today appointed Sharon Palmer to serve as Commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Labor. Ms. Palmer is currently the President of AFT Connecticut, an AFL-CIO union representing 28,000 teachers and other workers, including heath care professionals, state employees, higher education and school related personnel.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Fly Half-Staff Friday in Memory of Astronaut Neil Armstrong
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama, has directed U.S. and Connecticut flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, August 31, in memory of Astronaut Neil Armstrong, who died at age 82.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Recognition of Wisconsin Tragedy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, in response to a proclamation issued today from President Barack Obama, has directed all U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff until sunset on August 10, 2012, in memoriam of the victims of the tragic shooting in Wisconsin.

Gov. Malloy: Education Reform Delivers More Resources for Early Grade Literacy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, together with Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor, today announced that five elementary schools have been selected to pilot an intensive new reading intervention program for students in kindergarten through grade three. The K-3 Literacy Initiative was created as part of comprehensive education reform bill approved earlier this year with bipartisan support in the legislature and signed into law by the Governor.

Gov. Malloy Highlights New College Readiness and Completion Law
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by legislators and state higher education officials today at Norwalk Community College for a ceremonial bill signing, said that a new state law will add extra support for college students who need help in their regular courses and ensure that graduating high school seniors are better prepared for the rigors of higher education.

Gov. Malloy, Shoreline Delegation Announce State Bonding for Shore Line Trolley Museum
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Democratic state legislators from the East Haven area announced today that the State Bond Commission is expected to approve a $1 million state grant for the non-profit Shore Line Trolley Museum on River Street in East Haven to construct new trolley storage buildings above the flood plain.
