Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. James Tyler Grotjan
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, July 28, 2018, in honor of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. James Tyler Grotjan of Waterford, who died from injuries sustained while stationed overseas at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. A funeral service in his remembrance is being held on Saturday in New London.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Doug Dalena as General Counsel
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is appointing Doug Dalena to serve as General Counsel in the Office of the Governor. Dalena currently works in the office as Deputy General Counsel. He joined the Office of the Governor in 2015.

Gov. Malloy and Dept. of Transportation Mark Opening of the West River Bridge on I-95 Between New Haven and West Haven
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker today held a ceremony near the West River Bridge on I-95 to mark the opening of the newly replaced bridge, which carries I-95 over West River between New Haven and West Haven. The northbound lanes opened to traffic earlier this week, while the southbound side opened to traffic on May 23.

Gov. Malloy and AG Jepsen Announce Connecticut Wins Smog Lawsuit Against Trump Administration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that the State of Connecticut and the State of New York won their joint lawsuit in federal court against the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its administrator, Scott Pruitt, over the agency’s failure to adequately control ozone pollution from other states that negatively impacts air quality in the two downwind states.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Return to Full-Staff on Tuesday Evening
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that U.S. and state flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Flags have been flying at half-staff across the state in honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Walter Greene, who passed away in the line of duty following a courageous battle with cancer as the result of his response and service in support of New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Gov. Malloy: Free Travel Weekend on Hartford Line Rail Service Attracts Over 10,300 Train Riders on First Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that over 10,300 people rode the CTrail Hartford Line during its opening day of service on Saturday, June 16. Travel on the new rail service is free for all customers on opening weekend and continues through Sunday, June 17. Because of the significant demand on opening day, additional service will be added on Sunday.

Gov. Malloy: Newly Launched Hartford Line Attracted 21,850 Riders on its Opening, Free Travel Weekend
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the CTrail Hartford Line attracted a total of 21,850 riders over the course of its two-day opening weekend of service, during which travel was free to celebrate the launch. Sunday attracted a phenomenal response of 11,550 riders, surpassing the 10,300 who rode the train on its opening day of service the day prior.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of the Hartford Line, Providing Frequent Rail Service in the Central Connecticut Corridor
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined dozens of federal, state, and local officials, and Connecticut commuters to officially launch the CTrail Hartford Line for service. The passenger rail line, which has multiple stations in Central Connecticut along the I-91 corridor connecting New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield, is the first passenger rail line to open for service in Connecticut since 1990.

Gov. Malloy Signs Landmark Bills on Climate Change Resiliency and Renewable Energy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today held a bill signing ceremony in Hartford to commemorate the final passage of two pieces of legislation he introduced that will further Connecticut’s role as a national leader in environmental protection and put the state on a more sustainable path by decreasing statewide greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the usage of renewable energy.

Gov. Malloy: State Receives Partial Federal Approval of Hospital Proposal
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved part of Connecticut’s hospital plan. Specifically, CMS approved the administration’s request for a waiver of the federal broad-based requirements related to the hospital user fees, which represents one portion of the overall hospital legislation adopted late last year that made revisions to the biennial budget (Public Act 17-4, June Special Session).

Gov. Malloy Announces Plans to Appoint Scott Jackson as Commissioner of Revenue Services, Kurt Westby as Commissioner of Labor
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he will appoint Scott Jackson, who is currently the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL), to serve as Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Services (DRS). With Jackson’s departure from CTDOL, Governor Malloy will appoint the agency’s Deputy Commissioner, Kurt Westby, to serve as its Commissioner.
