  • 5/31/2018 Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Banning Bump Stocks and Other Rate of Fire Enhancements

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed into law legislation that bans bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. The Governor proposed the ban earlier this year.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), the U.S. firm in one of the largest professional services networks in the world, is planning a major expansion project in Connecticut that will see the creation of up to 400 new jobs in the state over the next five years. The company plans to spend $20 million on the expansion, which includes establishing Stamford as the headquarters for its Insourced Solutions for Tax (IST) division.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today kicked off the beginning on the state parks season in Connecticut. As a result of the recently launched Passport to Parks program, this is the first summertime season that vehicles registered in Connecticut will be provided free entry into all of Connecticut’s state parks.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff on Monday, May 28, 2018 from sunrise until noon in observation of Memorial Day. As is customary for the holiday, flags are lowered throughout the morning and then raised to full-staff at noon. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management and insurance officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the first day of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, it is always important to have preparations in place should any severe weather potentially impact the state. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principal threat period for Connecticut occurring from mid-August to mid-October.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Walter Greene, who passed away today in the line of duty following a courageous battle with cancer as the result of his response and service in support of New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and members of the administration released the following statements in response to Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit against the Trump-Pence administration, alleging that the dramatic changes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is making to the Title X program – including changing the program so that it no longer focuses on either birth control or reproductive health care and instead pushes patients toward abstinence and tries to prevent patients from utilizing Planned Parenthood’s services – are contrary to the Title X statute and regulations, which make clear that Title X is meant to provide comprehensive, evidence-based contraception and reproductive health services.
