Gov. Malloy Announces $6.5 Million to Provide Housing Opportunities for Youth Experiencing Homelessness
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced the release of over $6.5 million in federal grants that the State of Connecticut will use toward reaching its goal of ending youth homelessness. The grants were allocated as part of a competitive process through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) new Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP). To date, Connecticut has been awarded the largest grant of any jurisdiction in the country.

Gov. Malloy Announces $22 Million to Develop over 700 Affordable Housing Units in Hartford, New Haven and Waterbury
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced that nearly $22 million is being awarded to support the development of affordable housing in Hartford, New Haven, and Waterbury as part of the latest round of funding under the state’s Competitive Housing Assistance for Multifamily Properties (CHAMP) program. The awards will create, rehabilitate, or preserve 702 units of housing and greatly expand access to mixed-income, multifamily units across the state while building on the state’s efforts to prevent and end homelessness.

Gov. Malloy Submits Request for Presidential Major Disaster Declaration in Response to September’s Severe Rain and Flooding
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has submitted a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a presidential major disaster declaration resulting from the severe rainstorms and flooding that occurred in Connecticut on September 25 and 26. As required by FEMA, the request follows several weeks of data collection across the state by state and local officials to calculate damages and determine whether the federal qualifications have been met.

Gov. Malloy Announces Opening of DMV Express Office in Stamford for License and ID Card Renewals

Malloy and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner Michael Bzdyra today announced that beginning Wednesday, November 28, 2018, a new DMV Express office will open in Stamford, providing customers with increased opportunities to renew driver’s licenses and identification cards while expanding accessibility and convenience.

Gov. Malloy Announces ‘Fair Treatment for Incarcerated Women’ Legislative Proposal; Participates in National Day of Empathy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is proposing legislation aimed at strengthening Connecticut’s efforts to bring fairness and dignity to incarcerated women. The proposal will prohibit the shackling of pregnant inmates during labor, require the Department of Correction (DOC) to provide female inmates with feminine hygiene products at no cost, establish child friendly visitation policies, and require DOC to develop and implement a policy regarding transgender inmates, among other measures.

Gov. Malloy Directs Early Release of Nonessential State Employees Today in Staggered Phases Beginning at Noon

Malloy announced that all nonessential state employees will be sent home early in staggered phases of 15-minute intervals beginning at 12:00 p.m. today – Wednesday, March 7, 2018 – in order to better manage the evening commute given the significant winter weather conditions that are forecast to impact the state this afternoon.

Gov. Malloy Announces Tractor Trailer Highway Ban in Effect Immediately Until Further Notice

Malloy today announced that as winter weather conditions continue to deteriorate this evening, he has signed an order banning travel of all tractor trailers and tandem trailers on limited access highways until further notice to assist neighboring state New York manage traffic on its worsening highway conditions.

Gov. Malloy: Significant Results Generated in State’s Campaign to End Family Homelessness
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the State of Connecticut and its partners in the nonprofit sector matched 280 families, including 548 children and 438 adults, to housing during the last three months as part of the Governor’s Challenge on Family Homelessness – a campaign to house as many homeless families in the state as possible. Launched in September, the initiative was part of the administration’s ongoing goal to eliminate all forms of homelessness in the state.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the travel ban for tractor trailers and tandem trailers on all limited access highways will be lifted effective 10:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, March 7, 2018) except on I-84, where it will remain in effect until further notice.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the travel ban for tractor trailers and tandem trailers on I-84 will be lifted at 11:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, March 7, 2018). This is being done in coordination with New York State, which is also lifting the ban in their state at that same time.

Gov. Malloy Announces Open Space Grants That Will Preserve Nearly 1,200 Acres of Land in 14 Towns Across Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $4.8 million in state grants are being awarded to support the purchase of 1,139 acres of land for 15 projects in 14 Connecticut municipalities that the state will designate to be preserved as open space.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of President George H.W. Bush
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in remembrance of President George H.W. Bush, who passed away on Friday evening. Pursuant to U.S. Code (4 U.S.C. 7m), the flag shall be flown at half-staff for a period of 30 days following the death of a president or former president. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.
