Malloy, Senator Joseph Lieberman, and Senator Richard Blumenthal discussed the state’s $3.2 billion emergency supplemental budget request with Jeffrey Zients, Acting Director of the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB), on an afternoon phone call held to review the damage sustained from the two 2011 storms and superstorm Sandy.

Gov. Malloy: Residents Can Begin Applying for Temporary Job Opportunities to Assist with Sandy Recovery Efforts
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that residents can now contact the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) for information on potential temporary employment opportunities related to Storm Sandy recovery efforts under a program developed in cooperation with federal partners utilizing a $1.8 million federal grant the state received in the aftermath of the storm.

Gov. Malloy: Open Space Grants to Preserve Nearly 3,000 Acres of Land Across Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced awards of more than $9 million in Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition grants to support 35 communities in purchasing 2,732 acres to be preserved as open space.

Malloy today joined school administrators and teachers in the East Hartford, Meriden and New London school districts to discuss a collaborative effort announced yesterday that will expand and redesign school calendars for select schools within those three districts in an effort to improve learning for thousands of students.

Gov. Malloy, Commissioner Reviczky and Chef Jacques Pépin Join Emmett O’Brien Technical High School Culinary Students to Assist Shelton Homeless Shelter
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Department of Agriculture Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky, and world-renowned chef and author Jacques Pépin joined culinary students at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School today to cook over 90 meals for Spooner House, a Shelton nonprofit that provides emergency shelter, meals, and services to families in the Naugatuck Valley region.

Friday: Gov. Malloy Participates in Ceremony Honoring Memory of Trooper Kenneth Hall in Middletown, Welcomes Residents to Holiday Open House at Governor’s Residence
On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will join other state and local officials and residents at a ceremony dedicating a plaque at the rest stop and weigh station off I-91 north in Middletown to the memory of Trooper First Class Kenneth Hall, a 22-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police who died in the line of duty in September 2010 when a truck hit his patrol car while he was taking enforcement action on the side of the road.
