Gov. Malloy: Budget Proposal Boosts ECS Aid by More Than $152 Million Over the Biennium
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Department of Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor, and leaders from the Connecticut Education Association (CEA) and the American Federation of Teachers-Connecticut (AFT-CT), today announced a proposal to significantly increase the Educational Cost Sharing (ECS) aid to 117 municipalities, while maintaining level funding to the remaining cities and towns. The additional aid will also target needed resources and support to the state's 30 underperforming Alliance Districts.

Gov. Malloy Establishes Office of Early Childhood to Help Close Achievement Gap and Prepare Children for the Future
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Department of Social Services Commissioner Rod Bremby, Department of Public Health Commissioner Jewel Mullen, Department of Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor, Office of Early Childhood Planning Director Myra Jones Taylor, and other state officials, today announced the establishment of the Office of Early Childhood (OEC). The new agency will provide a comprehensive, collaborative system for delivering improved programs and services to children ages zero to five and their parents.

Gov. Malloy: Nonessential State Employees Should Not Report to Work on Friday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy is asking nonessential state employees to stay home on Friday in advance of the coming blizzard. However, evening and midnight shift employees should report to work as normal on Friday.

Gov. Malloy Proposes Balanced Budget With No New Taxes
Presenting his Fiscal Year 2014/15 budget to the General Assembly, Governor Dannel P. Malloy today outlined an ambitious agenda that builds on the investments made over the past two years in job creation and education without proposing any new taxes. In order to achieve those goals, the Governor’s proposed budget reduces spending by $1.8 billion off the state's current services budget.

Gov. Malloy: Sandy Hook Advisory Commission to Hear from Trauma Services and School Crisis Experts Friday
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission is next scheduled to meet on Friday, February 22, at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, where they will hear testimony from experts in the field of student support and school crisis response, including doctors with experience in psychology and trauma services.

Gov. Malloy to Town Leaders: Middleclass Tax Relief Must be a Priority
In a letter to town leaders, Governor Malloy today reaffirmed his commitment to providing middleclass tax relief to Connecticut’s working families. In addition to investing in job creation and education, the Governor’s proposal would eliminate the car tax for vehicles valued below $28,000 and reinstate the sales tax exemption on clothing under $50.
