Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman applauded Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz on her nomination to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. If confirmed, Commissioner Schwartz will serve as the new Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning, a key administration position.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation to Improve Connecticut Newborn Health Screening Process
Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Friday joined with a group of legislators and public health advocates for the ceremonial signing of legislation (Public Act 13-242 – "An Act Concerning Newborn Screening For Adrenoleukodystrophy") that requires Connecticut health care institutions to screen newborns in their care for adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a rare, but potentially fatal, genetic disorder that affects the central nervous system and causes a range of neurological, physical, and behavioral symptoms.

Gov. Malloy Signs Legislative Package Expanding Protections for Survivors of Domestic Violence

Malloy on Friday joined with a group of legislators and advocates for the ceremonial signing of a new package of laws (Public Act 13-214) that expand protections for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, continuing a trend to better coordinate services to best assist survivors.

Gov. Malloy, State and Local Officials Cut Ribbon on New West Haven Rail Station
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) Deputy Commissioner Anna M. Barry, and other state, railroad and local officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the new West Haven commuter rail station which will primarily serve customers on the New Haven Line, which is operated by Metro-North Railroad under contract to ConnDOT.

Gov. Malloy and Congressional Leaders Announce Federal Grant to Assist Emergency Response Efforts from Sandy Hook Tragedy
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, and Congressman Jim Himes today announced that the State of Connecticut has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to reimburse local and state governments for costs related to the emergency response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School (SHES) shooting, as well as for costs to restore public safety in the aftermath of the tragedy.
