• 9/15/2011 Friday: Gov. Malloy Attends BD Anniversary Celebration in Canaan, Speaks at Inauguration of UConn President Herbst

  On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will visit BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) to attend the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary of its Canaan facility. BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. The company employs about 350 workers at its Canaan facility, which opened in 1961.

• 9/26/2011 Tuesday: Gov. Malloy Keynotes Municipal Bond Summit

  On Tuesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote address at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association’s (SIFMA) Municipal Bond Summit in New York City. The summit will be attended by those in the municipal securities industry, including broker-dealers, regional dealers, issuers, municipal advisors, letter of credit banks, portfolio managers, institutional investors, rating agencies, credit analysts, and internal and outside counsel.

  On Tuesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will open a meeting of the Connecticut Employment and Training Commission, during which the commission’s new chairman, Donald Shubert, will be introduced.

Malloy will join U.S. Attorney David Fein, Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection Commissioner Reuben Bradford, and Executive Director of Voices of September 11th Mary Fetchet at a ceremony in Westport honoring first responders at the World Trade Center and other locations during the attacks of September 11, 2001.

• 9/8/2011 Dept. of Labor Release New Report; Construction Jobs Are Increasing in North Central CT

  Contrary to popular belief, the construction industry is poised to heat up in North Central Connecticut, adding as many as 30,000 projected jobs in the next five years. These jobs have the highest concentration in the areas of Hartford, East Hartford, New Britain, Bristol, Canton and Simsbury.

Austin, and Democratic and Republican legislative leaders will join executives from Jackson Laboratory to make a major announcement regarding a collaboration in bioscience in the state.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded a $546,822 grant to Connecticut to help increase state exports and the number of small businesses that export.

• 9/16/2011 Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Assistance for Individuals Nearing $2 Million for Tropical Storm Irene

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that more than $1,962,554.72 in federal assistance to date has been approved to help individuals with disaster expenses since President Obama approved his Disaster Declaration request as a result of Tropical Storm Irene.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today appointed members to the State Team Organized for the Review of Management of Irene (S.T.O.R.M. Irene) assessment team. The team, which is comprised of a group of people with diverse professional backgrounds in the military, disaster relief, municipal government, non-profit and labor sectors, will review the performance of the state and its partners – including the utilities and municipalities – in terms of the preparedness and response and recovery efforts related to Tropical Storm Irene.

• 9/20/2011 Gov. Malloy: Construction Begins on Criminal Justice Information System

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state has signed a contract with Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (ACS), a Xerox company, to build the state’s new Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), a tool to help criminal justice professionals enhance public safety.

• 9/21/2011 Gov. Malloy Joins New England Governors to Urge Level-Funding for Home Heating Assistance

  As the New England states prepare for the upcoming winter months, Governor Dannel P. Malloy and the governors of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island today sent a letter to Congressional leaders urging that federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) be maintained at the level last authorized of $5.1 billion.
