• 9/22/2011 Friday: Gov. Malloy Speaks at UConn Law School Insurance Law Symposium, Holds Post-Bond Commission Media Availability

  On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give a speech at an international insurance regulation symposium hosted by SNR Denton law firm and the University of Connecticut School of Law titled, “International Insurance Regulation in a Post-Crisis Environment: Perspectives from the US, the EU, China and the Middle East.” The Governor will speak about the insurance and financial services industries in Connecticut, and will be followed by a speech from Connecticut Insurance Department Commissioner Thomas Leonardi.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today signed two executive orders which will advance workers’ rights for personal care attendants and family child care providers and help lay the groundwork for them to organize and collectively bargain in the future.

• 9/2/2011 Gov. Malloy Announces $1 Million in Federal Emergency Relief Funds for Transportation Infrastructure Repairs and Clean Up Due to Hurricane Irene

  At the request of Governor Dannel P. Malloy, the Federal Highway Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation is making available to Connecticut $1 million in Emergency Relief Funding for clean-up and bridge and roadway infrastructure repairs as a result of Hurricane Irene. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will have immediate access to the funding stream to pay for clean-up costs and for damages incurred to the roadway network as a result of the powerful storm.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will be opening in every county of the state – and two in New Haven County – on Thursday, September 8 to assist home owners and businesses affected by Tropical Storm Irene.

• 9/15/2011 Gov. Malloy Announces Increased Staffing at State Crime Lab

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that funding has been authorized for increased staffing at the State Crime Lab. The funding is a reallocation of existing resources. In recent years, the lab has struggled to keep up with a dramatic increase in its workload and reductions in its professional staff.

Malloy today announced the selection of Stefan Pryor to be the new Commissioner of the State Department of Education, and praised the choice of a “turnaround leader” by the State Board of Education. Pryor headed the education department at the Partnership for New York City, a leading business/civic organization, and co-founded New Haven’s Amistad Academy, an acclaimed public charter school.

• 9/2/2011 Gov. Malloy, Insurance Commissioner Praise Carriers for Waiving Hurricane Deductibles

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Insurance Commissioner Thomas B. Leonardi today announced that the Administration has been working closely with the insurance industry in wake of Tropical Storm Irene to address the issue of higher-cost hurricane deductibles that may be applied for some damages on coastal properties. As a result, the majority of the companies that write homeowners policies in Connecticut, including the Travelers and The Hartford, will be waiving the higher cost deductible.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, on behalf of the State of Connecticut, will hold a memorial service for the state’s victims of September 11, 2001 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. The sculpture made in part from aluminum cladding from the World Trade Center will also be unveiled, honoring those the state lost.

Malloy today said that Jackson Laboratory’s (JAX) decision to launch a billion dollar personalized medicine project on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center highlights an immediate return on the investment the state made earlier this year in Bioscience Connecticut, and that it shows Connecticut’s research triangle is “coming to life.”
